Be prepared for EN50131
The introduction of the new European Systems Standard EN50131-1,
which lays down a structured risk assessment procedure for designers of intruder
alarms systems, should in turn lead to better designed systems that are graded
to meet the needs of the risk, with performance attributes which recognise
that heavier risks deserve more protection against more knowledgeable intruders
and better-planned attacks.
The dual running of BS and EN systems will end in October 2005, with no new
BS systems being allowed after that.
CCTV Systems and the Data Protection Act 1998 - Additional Guidance.
There has been a recent court of appeal case (Durant vs FSA)
which will affect whether particular CCTV activities are covered by the Data
Protection Act 1998. This guidance seeks to interpret the judgment for CCTV
users. It is particularly aimed at helping users of basic CCTV systems such
as small businesses. Anyone accessing the CCTV small user checklist or CCTV
code of practice should read this guidance first.
